Subject Description
MIT8204 Cloud Computing and Networks provides students with an understanding of cloud technologies and associated network infrastructure. The subject provides a comprehensive understanding of cloud computing and its associated technologies. Students explore cloud computing principles, architectures, service and deployment models along with associated networking concepts and security measures preparing themselves to design and manage efficient, scalable, and secure and private cloud-based solutions, including risk assessment. The practical exercises and case studies enable students to develop the skills necessary to leverage cloud computing for organisational innovation and efficiency.

Learning Topics
- Cloud service and deployment models
- Virtualisation and cloud architecture
- Cloud storage, networking and resource management
- Distributed, serverless and edge computing
- Cloud security, risk and the Internet of Things
Subject Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts and theories underlying cloud computing, including distributed and parallel computing, cloud data storage, cloud networking, cloud hardware and software, and cloud applications.
- Compare and contrast different virtualisation technologies and related architectures and their suitability for different problems.
- Analytically assess and model applications, tools and technical frameworks for cloud computing including the necessary data security and privacy.
- Critically evaluate and compare different enabling technologies for building cloud systems in particular environments.
- Design, develop, justify and test private and secure cloud-based solutions for effective and efficient support to organisations’ processes.
Assessment
AIIHE uses a variety of assessment tools to guide and assess each student’s achievement of the subject learning outcomes. In this subject, students undertake students will be given practical work in class on the topics studied in previous weeks to critically assess and examine different technologies, individual project students will create and justify, assessing the risk involved, a private, secure cloud migration solution for a provided organisational case and produce a deep 1500-word report, and group project this assessment measures students’ ability to gather, interpret, assess, and present complex information effectively, showcasing their analytical and communication skills in a professional context based on cloud technologies. These tasks assess the knowledge, applied skills, critical analysis, communication and collaborative capabilities relevant to the subject.
Summary of Assessment
- Students must attempt all assessment tasks, and achieve an overall mark of at least 50%, to pass this subject.
- Assessment in this subject is consistent with and informed by the AIIHE Assessment Policy and Procedure.
| Assessment Type | Due Date | Weighting |
|---|---|---|
| Assessment 1: E-portfolio | Week 1 to 12 | 30% |
| Assessment 2: Individual Project | Week 9 | 30% |
| Assessment 3: Group Project | Week 12, 13 | 40% |
